 How to prepare your ears for syringing or suctioning

In order to remove the ear wax easily and safely, we need you to prepare your ears as follows:

  • Lie on your side and apply 2 or 3 drops of olive oil into each affected ear. This will soften the wax and make removal easier.
  • Do this for a minimum of 3 days, but ideally for 7 days.
  • You may find it helpful to massage the outside of your ear to help the oil to penetrate into your ear more quickly.
  • Allow at least 10 minutes for the oil to penetrate before resuming normal activity.

    Please Note: this clinic is not appropriate for routine medical care or sickness benefit forms. These services should be via a normal booked GP appointment.             

    Skin Cancer Centre
    Comprehensive diagnosis and management of skin lesions. Taranaki's only dedicated Skin Cancer unit.
    Naevus
    For the latest technology in mole screening, mapping and diagnosis. Using Computerised Dermoscopy and Bodyscan mapping.
    X-Ray
    Onsite X-Ray services with Advance Radiology 9am-5pm Mon-Fri. No appointment necessary. Ph 06 7538941
    Travel Clinic

    The travel clinic provides advice & information about how to keep healthy whilst abroad, it designed as a 'one stop shop' for all vaccinations, including Yellow Fever, & malarial advice & we also have a wide range of travel health products for sale, such as mosquito nets, insect repellents, water purifiers & medical kits. In association with Worldwise.

    Ear Suction Clinic (Aural Microsuction)
    A new service replacing ear syringing for the removal of wax. Microsuction can also be used for the removal of foreign bodies and in the treatment of otitis externa. Appointments are available on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
